Capital Performance at Aus Champs

Ross Barr (M65A), Barbara Hill (W45A) and Neil Schafer (M85A) all finished first to become Australian Sprint Champions in their divisions.  Brooke Martin (W35A) and Mike Hanratty (MOPenB) were placed second and Ellen Currie (W12A) and Jim Merchant (M65A) were placed third in their divisions.  Jim's third was particularly notable because M65A is a very competitive division and it was Jim's first trip to the podium in an Australian Championships.  You can check out the full results.

The next day was the "long" event which was held in a bushland and farming area 2 hours drive south of Canberra.  It was an entertaining area with the obligatory granite rock amongst trees and fallen timber.  The courses were long and tough and tested everyone's endurance and navigational ability.  Brook Martin was placed first in W35A and Neil Schafer backed up for another first in the M85A with Mike Hanratty being placed second in the MOPenB division.  It was good to seen Paula Savolainen back in Australia in the Garingal O gear on a short visit from Finland.  Check out the photo (left) of Ross Barr mixing it with two of the elite runners on the last few controls in the long event.  Full results.
