Sunday, 10 February 2013 - Killcare- the annual Garingal presentation day was held last Sunday with more than 50 of our club members motoring up to the central coast to enjoy a beautiful day near the beach.  Jim Merchant presented the 2012 club champion award to Duncan Currie for the second year in a row.  The Most Improved Junior was Joanna Hill and the Junior Encouragement award was presented to Ellen Currie.  Dennis Sparling was announced as the winner of the Silver Hare award for 2012.


Party, Training Course and AGM

Sunday, 3 February 2013 - Sydney - There is a wealth of orienteering action currently in play around Sydney.  We have the Monday sprint series and the Wednesday summer series presently in full swing.  This week's action is an unusual double header with both Monday and Wednesday events, by coincidence,  starting in Pennant Hills Park.  Get out there any enjoy the action in between the alternating heat and rain.


Beechworth Success for Garingal Girls

Christmas 5 Days Success Brings Smiles31 December 2012 - Beechworth - the Garingal team headed to Victoria for 5 days of orienteering between Christmas and New Year..  The area included the fabled "Rowdy Flat" map which is one of the most technical orienteering maps in Australia as well as classic spur gully and gold mining terrain around Beechworth.  Full results can be found here and photos from the carnival can be found here.

When: Saturday, 9th February, 2013

Where: Tim & Bryony Cox's, 12 Putty Beach Drive, Killcare
..but please park in Beach Drive - it's the one after Putty Beach Drive and has much safer parking. Come in via their back gate from the ride (clearing) between the homes, that is found either from the 'Open land with scattered trees' (south end of ride) extending from Beach Drive to Putty Beach Drive or the lane-way (north end of the ride), also running between the two Drives.  Everyone, please use the pdf map (click here) to park and walk to the party!

What's firstFrom about 10am - a score course run around Killcare, Hardys Bay, Pretty Beach & Wagstaffe.  Meet in the ride/cleared passageway behind Bryony & Tim's (refer to the pdf map). SI will be used for timing starting & finishing but pencils for registering at the pot controls.  Full colour, 1:10,000 maps.

Then: to fill in your time between the run and lunch, or for early arriving lunchers (the Coxs will arrive there about noon), some sightseeing/touring around the Killcare area such as:
Surf at the surf club end of Putty Beach;
Swim at the calm end of Putty Beach;
Walk down to Maitland Bay;
Coffee at the Fat Goose or the Old Killcare Store;
Just tour the beautiful Wagstaff/Killcare area.

What's nextLunch for everyone (runners and later arriving non-runners) will be from 12.30pm with the lighting of the one barbecue.  Members are asked to bring either a salad or dessert to share but bring your own mains and cutlery, etc., and a spare picnic chair if you can.  Garingal is providing drinks as usual.

What's next:  About 2pm, presentation of Badges won during 2012, plus the 2012 Garingal Medals, and the perpetual club trophies (the Hare and the Junior's Ryde Trophy).  There will be an AV presentation as well.

But wait, there's more:  after the presentations, Desserts! And tea or coffee for the trip home.

Bryony Takes Oceania Sprint Champs

Bryony Cox in action in the Oceania Sprint Challenge in Wellington, New Zealand10 January 2013, Wellington, New Zealand - Bryony Cox flew around the sprint course at Mt Victoria in Wellington, New Zealand to take out the W65A category in the Oceania Sprint Championships.  The race was set on steep parkland on the mountain before it descended into the buildings of Wellington College.  Donning the green and gold for the Australian team spurred Bryony to a near perfect run to pass the Kiwi competitors and clinch the win in an impressive time.  Full results can be found here and some photos of the carnival can be found here.
