Garingal's Christmas Party

Garingal Goes Geocaching at the Girl Guide hall

Garingal’s recent Christmas party included a “taste” of geocaching. Fearless geocachers included: Bryony & Tim (pictured), Elizabeth & John, Riley & Natalie, Ellis & Andra and also Angus, Jim F, Warwick, Aniko & Peter, Ted W, and Barb & Ron. After geocaching, about 40 GO members enjoyed tastes from the BBQ, superb salads, special deserts and conversations with orienteering friends.  The night concluded with the announcement of various awards for 2017: Toby Wilson was the club champion; Andra Leung was the most improved junior and Tim McConaghy was awarded the junior encouragement award; Barb Junghans was awarded a club medal for her role leading the organisation of the Aussie Champs. Finally, Jim Forbes was awarded the prestigious Garingal Silver Hare.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this a great night.

GO Takes the Anniversary Cups

winnersThe 2018 SSS Anniversary Cup on the trophy shelves of Garingal members

Congrats to former JWOCers Toby Wilson and Michele Dawson for taking out the SSS Anniversary Cup line course at Blackman Park in Lane Cove West.  The 6km mass start was run in rather cool conditions, in contrast to the past 3 months in hot-humid Sydney. Setter Dan Redfern (nursing a lower limb injury) made the Line folk go out and back the length of Lane Cove River - posing questions of route choice around climb and some light bush navigation.  Lisa Grant was second, along with Ondrej Pavlu (UR) who had to settle for silver for a change. Third placings went to Ewan Shingler (BF) and Carolyn Haupt.  Thanks Dan for a great course.
