6 From 7 at Cataract | Print |  E-mail

The Garingal juggernaut descended on Cataract for the first inter-club MetroLeague event for 2010.

The results were a near clean sweep - 6 wins from the seven teams.  Garingal results can be found here.  Thanks to club captain Jamie Kennedy for organising the team.

In Division A, Glenn Horrocks led the way, not only capturing the 10 points, but posting the best time on that course of any competitor. Ably backed up by Huon Wilson and John Havranek, with 8 & 7 points respectively, the Top Guns defeated Big Foot 33 - 19.

In Division B, Garingal (A) were pipped by Bennelong, 25 - 29, the closest result for any Garingal (GO) team. Kar-Soon Lim made his ML debut for GO and will probably be the better for the experience. Results were consistent, but after Bennelong captured the first three places, Garingal runners filling the fourth to eighth spots was just a little less than required.

The GO(B) team were too strong for Southern Highlands, with Warwick Selby putting in the best GO time in the division (although not overall - the only division that didn't have a GO runner as the fastest competitor). I understand Warwick was one of several who backed up after Saturday's Minigaine, so extra credit for that effort. Michaele Dawson and Ken Jacobsen placed second and third.

GO(A) in Division C beat Big Foot 30 - 24, Rod Eckels with the best Garingal time in that team, and not far short of the best on that course. Special thanks to David Stitt who stepped up into that team at the last minute.

GO (B) may get the "Team of the round" award. Stuart McWilliam, Ernest Windschuttel and Tania Kennedy all moved up from running Div. D last year and acquitted themselves admirably. Airdre Long gained second place in the contest. But top performance for me was by Mark Brindley. Mark scorched around the course in 40:53, best of all competitors. Highest GO score of the day, 36 - 18.

Division D should probably be known as the Emergence of the Juniors. Daniel Hill and Toby Wilson finished first and second in GO(A)'s downing of Bennelong 31 - 23. GO(B) was topped by Aidan Dawson's "best on course" 30:41. Another fine performance was Nicole Sellin, an ML debutant for Garingal, who came second in that contest.  GO(B) over SHOO, 33 - 19.

Next MetroLeague event is three weeks time, March 28 at Maraylya. Hope to see you there.
