Moonlight Madness 1 - "Blackman Park", Lane Cove West  Wednesday, 21st July
Our first use for night orienteering of this relatively old Garingal map (first mapped in 1995) took place under a clear moonlit sky, a happy eventuality following rain in the early morning.
The clear sky gave us quite cold conditions for reading and running - gloves were popular for those that had them.
The change of assembly point to take off possible "population pressure" from around the Lane Cove Scout Hall was no problem for our canny competitors, but somewhat of an anti-climax as the several playing fields of Blackman Park, generally flood-light-lit and very busy with football trainings on Wednesday evenings, were deserted on the night, presumably because the ovals were deemed too wet for football.  Ah, it's never too wet for O, of course.
Peter Annetts did the best with just a 10 pointer and 20 pointer not on his card for a 570.  Quite a few +500 scores meant also good results for those fleeter of foot.  Happily, the "rest of us" also scored well with everyone getting at least half the points on offer.
My thanks to Ian, Dan, Ted and Ron who lent a hand at the table during the evening, and to Duncan and Ellen for help with the results tabs.
Moonlight Madness 2 sees us moving up-river to Chatswood, where there'll be more bush paths and parks in which to search for the red reflectored markers.   Lowanna Park, on the corner of Fullers Rd and Greville St.  18th August.  7pm.  Wind up those torches and headlamps now.
