Sunday, 23 June 2013 - Allambie Heights - Orienteers competing in The Great Nosh a few weekends ago would have remembered the huge downpour in the middle of the race as the race approached the track near Wakehurst Parkway at Allambie Heights. A similar scene greeted orienteers turning up for the fourth round of the MetrOleague held on Sunday. This time, however, the deluge occurred just before start time as around 150 orienteers descended on the start location. Organisers Bennelong Northside must have wondered what they had done to bring on 2 very wet days for the 2 major regional events. However, the rain stopped, the sky cleared (well it brightened up) and the race started. Each competitor started at one minute intervals and headed off down the althetics track, past the school and into the bush ...Garingal fielded 9 teams and had 4 wins. The bakery at Allambie did a handsome trade in pies at the conclusion of the event. Full results and splits are now available.

Wednesday, 19 June 2013 - Southern Highlands - the long weekend saw the annual QB3 orienteering event which this year was held in the Southern Highlands. It was 3 days of classy orienteering, starting with a sprint at Chevalier College in Bowral followed by the long and middle distance events in the Belanglo State Forest.
Around 50 Garingal members attended the event which entertained around 270 orienteers from across NSW and ACT. There was, of course, the traditional meal at the Sutton Forest Hotel on Saturday evening and great company at the hut in the forest (grounds are pictured left). Whilst the focus was on running and completing the courses as quickly as possible, there were some interesting fauna observations with kangaroos, a koala and even one emu spotted in the forest. Check out the full results.

Sunday, 26 May 2013 - Cattai - the 2013 metrOleague competition is now in full swing with the latest round being held last weekend at Cattai National Park near Windsor. It was Garingal v. Garingal with 8 of our teams matching up against each other on the day. This, of course, meant Garingal was the winner (and other placegetter) in these divisions with the Monitors, Frill Necks and Legless taking out the honours. Well, it turned out not to be that simple, because in Division 3 the Molochs and the Skinks had a very close race and tied the scores to share the spoils!
