Christmas 5 Days at Orange

Tuesday, 31 December 2013 - Orange - The annual Christmas 5 Days Carnival finished up earlier this week.  The carnival was held in the central west of NSW and was based around Orange.  There was a sprint at Charles Sturt University on the first afternoon followed by 4 quality bush events at Macquarie Woods, Rocky Falls, Ophir Diggings and our old favourite, Kahlis Rocks.

Garingal organised Day 4 of the carnival which was the event at Ophir Diggings.  The map is classic spur gully terrain mixed with an intense area of gold diggings from the 1860s including multiple adits, pits and erosion areas.  Thank you to Peter Annetts (organiser), Tony Hill (setter), James Lithgow (controller) and the rest of the Garingal team present for facilitating the event.  Thanks also to the Goldseekers Club including Basil and Jean Baldwin for organising the overall carnival.  Full results can be found here

Beacon Hill Clay Pan SSS

Wednesday, 13 November 2013 - Beacon Hill:  Two records claimed at the Clay Pan...
The Sydney Summer Series rolls on with Event #7 completed at the Clay Pan in Beacon Hill late Wednesday afternoon 13th November 2013.  It was a perfect evening for running.  And the course that had been set steered most competitors to the north-west, bushy section of the map.
Jimmy Merchant, mapper cartographer extraordinaire, had extended the map to include Governor Phillip Lookout atop Beacon Hill at the highest point, where control #28 was hanging on the flagpole, giving everyone (if they stopped for a moment) a magnificent view south towards North Head.

Top Drawer in Sydney

Sunday, 13 October 2013 - Pyrmont - the best was left to last ... the State League for 2013 officially wrapped up last weekend with Garingal hosting the NSW Sprint Champs on the Sydney Harbour foreshore at Pyrmont.  The event had it all - an assembly area adjacent to classy restaurants and cafes, an adventure playground with water features for the children, parking in close proximity, an awesome view of the harbour in a natural arena like cove, and courses which took runners through a labrinyth of small laneways and buildings on different levels.

Ross Barr and Carol Jacobson had worked a treat with the new map of the area and President Kennedy delivered on the organisational front.  Jamie was pleased to see that the event concluded and packed up by around 11:40am - must be an organisational record for a State League.  Stuart McWilliam did a great job on the start and Colin and Dianne Burnett were ever steady on the IT in the finish tent.  Full results and photos.
