Australian University Sprint Champion

OOB everywhere  Melbourne - National Orienteering League 2016

Garingal's Michele Dawson, was a standout performer in Melbourne, in the opening weekend of the National Orienteering League, 2016.

Michele placed 6th, 3rd, 4th and 3rd in the four Sprint races against some tough competition. Her 3rd place in the race at Melbourne University saw her crowned Australian University Sprint Champion, representing the University of NSW.

Michele now has her sights set on being selected, and representing at World University Championships which are to be held in Hungary later this year.

Also attending the NOL was a small representative of Garingal members with some wonderful results.

Ross Barr (promoting the new Garingal Running Singlet) smashed the M70 with a clean sweep of four 1st placings!  Truly an inspiration for our club.

Other notable performances were Toby Wilson and Graeme Dawson with four top 10 placings, Aidan Dawson with three top 10 placings and Duncan Currie with two top 10 placings.

...a highly successful weekend of racing for our Garingal team.

Onwards and Upwards

Sydney - Monday, 15 February 2016 - Garingal has recently held its annual presentation evening under a beautiful sunset at Middle Head on Sydney Harbour. The highlight was the presentation of the annual "club champion" trophy.  Over recent years, it has been a close contest between Peter Annetts and Duncan Currie.  However, this year there was a "third force" with  another junior, Toby Wilson, blowing the opposition away with a consistent and powerful set of results during the year.  Congratulations Toby on the well deserved award.

The "most improved junior" for the year was Angus Leung and the "junior encouragement award" was presented to Ellen Currie.  Congratulations Angus and Ellen.

It was also very pleasing to see Jamie and Tania Kennedy being presented with the "Silver Hare" award for great service to the club over the past few years.  Jamie has been a fine president of the club for the last 4 years and has decided to pass the baton onto the younger generation.

In this respect, Garingal at the AGM elected a new president for the coming year.  Ross Duker, a great contributor to the club over the years, was elected into the position and we congratulate Ross on his appointment.  Ross was quickly down to business and announced that the first committee meeting is on following training at North Ryde RSL at 7:30pm Tuesday, 16 February 2016.

Club Training - Garingal is now holding a regular training session each Tuesday at 6pm at North Ryde RSL Youth Club.  The training is a combination of building both fitness and navigation skills.  Club members and their guests are welcome to attend.  It is a great way to improve your orienteering results and to get to know others in the orienteering community.  See you there.

OShea 2 Days - The Central Coast club is hosting the annual Oshea 2 Days this weekend.  This involves a bush event on Saturday afternoon, followed by an evening urban event with a chasing start.  Sunday morning sees a score style event.  The winners are presented with the famous OShea 2 Days cake adorned with white/green icing and green spearmint leaf lollies (assuming Allens still manufactures them having announced earlier in the year that they were terminating production).  Enter.

Summer Series at Glebe - This Wednesday sees the Sydney Summer Series carnivale move to Glebe in Sydney's inner west. The event starts at Wentworth Park, Wentworth Park Road, Glebe and one of the other Rosses in the club, Ross Barr, is setting so it should be a good one.  Starts from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
