The GOanna Wrap

December 2012 - South Turramurra - Goat racing is here to stay, judging by the enthusiastic response to the inaugural GOanna event at South Turramurra on Sunday.  Goat racing, you ask? Surely you are kidding? Yes, and no... and pardon the pun.  52 orienteers turned up unsure what to expect - except possibly the unexpected!

NSW Presentation Dinner Saturday

Brook in action in TasmaniaSaturday, 3 November 2012 - Sydney - we have a big week of orienteering coming up in Sydney to choose from.   Sunday commences with the continuation of the "learn to navigate" course which is being held each Sunday over the next few weeks.  This is an ideal opportunity to find out all those navigational tricks you need to know to pick up extra time and points in the summer series.  Monday moves to the Sydney West series with this week being at Beaumont Hills.  Then Wednesday is our Garingal summer series event being organised by Ron Junghans at North Ryde.

Finally, on Saturday evening we have the Annual NSW Presentation Evening.  This year, the presentations are being held at Castle Hill Showground and will be preceded by by an informal score event in the showground.  The score event start is at 4:30pm.  There are showers at the showground so you can freshen up.  The major junior awards start at 6pm and then dinner is at 7pm followed by the senior awards.  Further details can be found here and you can book your tickets here.  Garingal will be hosting a number of tables and it is a great social evening with people from other clubs all over NSW.

Also, keep an eye out for further information about the Garingal Goanna event to be held in Turramurra on 2 December 2012.   This is a navigational race with a mass start, some forked legs and the opportunity to skip a certain number of controls (if only that was allowed in some of the line course events!).  There will be both strategy and fitness required to win the event.  There will be short, medium and long courses to cater for various age groups.

Summer or Winter?

2012 Garingal Juniors13 October 2012 - Sydney - It was a week of wild weather starting with some warm summer like sunshine followed by freezing conditions with snow falling across much of NSW.  So much snow and wet wild weather, that the already postponed State League event at the appropriately named "Snows Hill" near Tarago was unfortunately cancelled for this weekend.

Nationals Rock on Platform

31 September 2012 - Bicheno, Tasmania - A solid contingent of Garingal Orienteers headed down to Tasmania for the 2012 Australian Orienteering Championships which were held in late September.

The events were generally held in a State Forest near St Helens which is on the east coast of Tasmania.
